Listed as a marine lab online so I'm not too sure why I ended up in some massive dull complex. Maybe edit description a bit. Staff seemed cool though, although a bit odd.

Just want to make sure others don’t get confused. This location is where the scientists that work for the Monterey Bay Aquarium mainly work and do their research. The location that is famous and everyone wants to visit is located in Monterey and is simply the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This location isn’t meant for the public and doesn’t have any exhibits.

September 2014. We visited this facility, expecting all the items in the other reviews. The receptionist looked at us though we had two heads and had no idea what we were looking for. She graciously had her supervisor come out to talk with us, and she had no idea where "this place" was, but it wasn't here at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute 7700 Sandholdt Road Moss Landing, CA 95039. We left feeling like total fools. We looked all around for some secrete other building, that they may not know of, but didn't find any.So what is the deal? Are these reviews written by kids on school trips, tour groups, or who? I don't know. So I have to give it zero because as far as I could tell the Institute had no general public access in 2014.

A friend worked at Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute as a research scientist. After one of his trips aboard a research trip he invited us to come see him at MBARI. The videos he showed of deep sea animals were very interesting. Thanks for the work you guys do.

MBARI is a private non-profit research center specializing in ocean research and technology development. It is closed to the general public, so don't expect to just show up to get a tour. In the past, MBARI had done outreach and frequently had groups from schools and colleges on site for personally arranged tours. In addition, MBARI had hosted an open house for one day in the summer. This gave the public an opportunity to see 'behind the scenes' and get a peek at the research and development that happens at MBARI. I'm these COVID-times, much of this outreach is currently on hold.

Closed to the public. Had a rare visit with my Marine Biology class. This is amazing place doing cutting edge research on our world's oceans!
