In my experience with attorneys there are two main types. The first type is the type of attorney that tells you what you want to hear and is really only interested in making money. The second type is the one that is straightforward and honest with you even when it doesn’t benefit him or her. I imagine people get upset when that happens and that’s probably the type of people that leave negative reviews for Mrs. West. She is one of the main lawyers I use because I trust her opinion and guidance. I need someone to be honest with me and she definitely fits that bill. There is a gray area sometimes with the law and I appreciate the fact that I can find the right thing to do for my businesses by discussing it with her. I also appreciate the fact that she respects her clients enough to fight for them when she needs to and the wisdom to know what will benefit us the most.

My experience with Kayann Hayden West Law could be best summed up as a nightmare worse than the divorce. If you want to throw away approximately $20,000, end up with standard child custody arrangements, and take the "We'll bring it up when we go to court approach" to every attack presented by the opposing council, then Kayann Hayden West is the attorney you want.

Judy was he only employee that was delightful to speak with and most likely the only person you will probably make contact with as Kayann (Attorney) and Barbara (Para) are way to busy to speak with you as evident by the $8,000 in three week period for "Trial Prep" bill you will not receive till after the completion of the case. Too be fair Kayann is usually on vacation (Three separate weeks in 6 month period). Likely the only communication your might receive is an email with statement attached which doesn't add up to the total printed on the statement.

The difference was discovered when I review the email of all the invoices you emailed yesterday which is when I received Invoice# 664 ($7,060) for the first time. You are correct that I have contacted you and your office on numerous occasions for clarification on the work performed in January and requesting receipt for January payment ($3,000). Until yesterday I hadn’t seen or received Invoice# 664.

When I received Invoice#676 ($5,642.79) with simply listed January work as unpaid prior balance and that when compared with December($285) Invoice and $3,000 payment on 1-7-2020 showed $7,097.79 charged in a three-week period that I didn’t have an invoice for.

On February 5th 2020 while awaiting the Judge, I asked you what you expect my final bill to be and you advised around $4,300 dollars. You also advised you would reduce the amount significantly if a lump sum was paid. So, imagine my shock with two days later I receive Invoice# 676 for $5,642.79 with handwritten note asking for a $4,750 lump sum payment.

Regarding you comment “ I am certainly surprised that you have waited until I have secured final documents in your divorce to question the billing.” Refer to the second paragraph of the email you sent and I’m replying too, I have certainly been questioning your billing procedures and charges related to addressing the same issues on numerous occasions and being billed for it every time. I have also on numerous occasions reached out to your office to regarding the billing I’m advised that you handle billing and are out of town and or on vacation or otherwise unreachable. That combined with the accidental reply email from Barbara stating “Regarding his comment about going back before the Judge, I think if he pursues that, then he must pay you in full and then pay for the court time up front. I can’t believe he even has the stones to say that. Ugh!” confirmed to me how your firm feels about my case.

(Judge issued a Rule Nisi due to no order(s) presented for signature in a reasonable amount of time after the case was settled)

Furthermore, I had completed and signed a termination letter to you on April 13th 2020, but didn’t send due to the fact it was being reviewed by another attorney I was in the process of retaining to complete the divorce. However, I received the final documents prior to sending the termination letter.

I will continue to send payment every two weeks to keep my account in good standing.

Currently awaiting for State Bar Fee Arbitration hearing.
