Togo participated in the Youth Summit for Peace and a Sustainable Future which took place from July 22 to 26, 2024 in France, more precisely in Montpellier. A delegation of 3 people led by koffi Ognadon Adih AFOUDJI, interpreter translator of the Chinese language at CGGC.

Indeed, this large-scale Summit was organized by the Institute of Public Policy and Diplomacy Research (IPPDR) in collaboration with the municipality of the city of Montpellier and its mayor Mr. Michaël DELAFOSSE under the aegis of the United Nations (UN).

More than 100 young people from at least 40 countries from all continents of the world took part in the Youth Summit for Peace and a Sustainable Future. According to the head of the Togolese delegation, Koffi Ognadon Adih AFOUDJI, the activities of this summit have allowed to better understand the importance of education for peace and to discover the efforts made by international institutions to maintain this peace.

*"This summit is a bet won for the organizers. I would like to specify that we had to work together and especially in harmony without social, political, religious or racial distinctions. For three days, we worked in plenary sessions and workshops. The topics debated allowed us to exchange and share our experiences. It also allowed us to discover the efforts of international institutions to maintain peace in the world", rejoiced Koffi Ognadon Adih AFOUDJI.*

During the Summit, the panelist Pulak Mazumder from Bangladesh returned to the importance of peace education in the world. Dr Bruno MPODO EPO shared with the participants his experience within the UN and also on the United Nations Security Council on the adoption of resolution 2250 of December 9, 2015. It should be remembered that a Ukrainian participant did not fail to draw the attention of the organizers to the issue of the war in Ukraine and its negative consequences.

In the process, the head of the Togolese delegation, Koffi Ognadon Adih AFOUDJI said that the participation in this summit sufficiently demonstrates their commitment to peace throughout the world.

* "As the father of the Ivorian nation, Félix HOUPHOUET BOIGNY, said, peace is not a word but a behavior. We were present as young peace activists at this global event which ended beautifully with the adoption of a declaration signed by the participants and the city of Montpellier. They will be presented next September at the 79th United Nations General Congress in New York, USA,” said AFOUDJI.*

In the adopted text, the Summit participants asked the United Nations for “a more inclusive representation of young people in decision-making processes and in conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms.” In this perspective, they made several commitments including those to promote “the development and implementation of a youth-led peace strategy,” to support “all mechanisms that promote a culture of peace, tolerance and dialogue” and to reintegrate “young people into society by supporting appropriate structures and institutions such as vocational training and guidance centers.”

In addition, the participants did not fail to express their gratitude to Dr. ANDRISE BASS, event promoter, founder of IPPDR (Institute of Public Policy and Diplomacy Research) and president of the Focus Humanitarian Foundation.

*"Once again we say thank you to Dr ANDRISE BASS and his colleagues as well as his partners for this beautiful initiative of struggle and education for the world's youth. We also hope that this declaration can reach the United Nations and not only that they make resolutions but also apply them so that peace can reign throughout the world", the participants said.*

The Youth Summit on Peace and Sustainable Future in Montpellier was amazing. Young people coming together from different countries to think about how to build a peaceful and sustainable future is beautiful to see. The Youth has energy and creative ideas that can help achieve peace in the world. Young people should not be left out of the peace building process. A big thank you to IPPDR, especially to Dr. ANDRISE Bass for making it happen and for the city of Montpellier for hosting the event. We Young people are ready to play our part. It was a privilege for me to be the MC of the summit.

The Institute of Public Policy and Development Research under the Leadership of Dr Bass did an excellent job.
I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Montphiler Youth Summit, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. From the moment I walked through the doors of the convention center, I could feel the energy and enthusiasm buzzing in the air. The summit aimed to bring together young minds from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas, collaborate, and ultimately empower each other to become the leaders of tomorrow. And let me tell you, it delivered on all fronts.

The lineup of speakers was nothing short of impressive. Experts from various fields shared their knowledge and experiences, inspiring us to think outside the box and challenge the status quo. I was particularly moved by the keynote address given by Dr. Maya Patel, a renowned social entrepreneur, whose passion for creating positive change in the world was truly infectious. Her words resonated with me long after the summit ended, reminding me of the importance of using my voice to make a difference.

I recently completed a course in Sustainable Development Diplomacy at IPPD and I must say it was an enlightening and enriching experience. This course delved into the intricate world of diplomacy through the lens of sustainable development, and here are my thoughts:

Content: The course content was well-structured, covering a wide range of topics, from global environmental challenges to the role of international organizations in sustainable development. It provided a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

Case Studies: The inclusion of real-world case studies was a highlight. These practical examples allowed us to apply diplomatic principles to actual sustainability issues, enhancing our problem-solving skills.

Resources: The course materials and resources were readily accessible and up-to-date. This facilitated independent research and deepened our understanding of key issues

Overall, the Sustainable Development Diplomacy course was a valuable investment in my academic and professional growth.
