I've been getting jacked around by GCI for a year through their customer service phone line, so I finally went into the store and it wasn't any better. The manager went immediately on the defensive and said the GCI call center isn't her problem and then gave me the attitude that I'm the one who screwed up.
As a customer service employee for a major airline, I would've been fired for this attitude. I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of a flamethrower and that was not my approach.

I guess you can suck when you have a monopoly and that's why cable companies are the most hated industry in the world.

They really should have zero stars for reviews. The one lady was nice but the other lady (I’m guessing she is the supervisor) was rude. I was told by others she can be as well. I’ve always had issues with GCI, which sucks because in a lot of situations it’s your only choice.

This review is specifically for the staff- Athina. My husband and I had a tricky phone transfer from an old carrier and she helped us through the long arduous process with both of our phones with such patience and kindness; she also updated us timely throughout the entire process. She was incredibly helpful and professional and gave us a couple of tips for our new devices. Wonderful customer service experience! Thanks Athina ❣️

Staff here is great. Athina helped me get set up with a new account and had me in and out within half an hour. She also tried everything she possibly could to help me activate a second phone, to no avail but that's irrelevant as it wasn't the fault of the staff its the fault of the seller (and buyer). Great customer service here.

Spectacular customer service as well as product knowledge that explained the billing/payment options very thoroughly. I originally went in just to switch over two lines from AT&T and wound up bundling both mobile lines with Home Internet for the same price I paid for just the two phone lines at AT&T. I was given one heck of a deal when I decided to throw in a new phone on top of all that. Money very well spent and I wish I would have gone this route sooner. Can't wait to see what else they've got to offer.

The Real Deal

Hold times in excess of one hour. Chat support did not pick up for three full days. Four days to reply to emails. Overcharged for monthly service ($249 instead of advertised $179). Failed to send cable modem to correct address. Literally on hold from 11a on Monday the 22nd of January, 2022 to 8p same day when their system hung up on me. Was disconnected five times through that day while on hold, twice less than five minutes into conversation with technical support. Email replies clearly didn’t read my complaint email and replied asking questions answered in the body of my original message. Apathetic and moribund respond from the few employees I’ve actually been able to get a reply from. It’s obvious they don’t care.

GCI has made ZERO effort to reply to Better Business Bureau complaint filed more than two weeks ago. I have received a bill by email asking me to log in to make a payment-- except that it does not include my account number, which is needed for the login process. To get that, GCI recommends calling their useless 1-800 number and waiting on hold until they get around to answering the call (median hold time on every single call: one hour and thirteen minutes.

Frosting this cake of stupid, downtown Sitka location staff are incredibly rude and demand unnecessary medical appliances. Woman behind the left hand desk is so worried about her health that she demanded I put on a mask and refused to do her job if I didn’t, yet she is easily 100 pounds past “morbidly obese.” Put down the fork and I’ll consider wearing an unnecessary mask to protect you from an illness with a 99.9995% survival rate IF you even get it. You’re way more likely to die from cardiac stress that comes from carrying around enough puppy fat for twelve litters of Rottweilers than you are from covid, and you know it. Demanding masks is just your officious and petty way to annoy the customer.

GCI knows they are the only service provider in Sitka and it shows.

Will not return to Sitka office until I am contacted by the local area manager with a hand written letter of apology (no copy/paste form emails!) from the individual in question. GCI Sitka owner can reply here. Be advised that I am not calling your 1-800 number again; I’m not sitting through another DAY of hold.
