Had a Phase III clinical trial outsourced to AMAREX. Below, just a few examples to show what I had to deal with after taking over as sponsor company head of Biostats, 4 years after the project started.
1. After the original contract, 46 change orders received within the first 4 years, which more than doubled the original contract cost.
2. One change order was for query closure at $20 a pop for thousands of system/edit check generated and manually raised queries. AMAREX interpretation of the $9.60 a piece query cost included only "running edit checks, generate, process, and track data queries", as query closure in the EDC system was not stated.

Granted, the sponsor company did not have adequate functional expertise to review the contracts and change orders.

Honestly, AMAREX data management team had done a decent job after the sponsor company beefed up sponsor oversight.
