I had a MacBook Pro that died due to not taking a charge nor being able to power on Apple couldn’t do anything and some of my data hadn’t been backed up before it lost juice. So my next step was to find a place that could potentially extract my data and save my files.

I happened to be visiting Miami at the time so I decided to go to WRD based on the good reviews. First off, this location is not a storefront. It’s an intake center where they ship your machine to a lab about an hour away in Aventura.

I spoke to someone on the phone before I decided to hand it over and he explained the process, cost, and possible resolutions and their cost. His name was Dan and he was super nice and basically the only good part of my experience.

It was $95 just for them to analyze the situation and come back with a quote to extract my data. Within 24 hours they came back with a quote for minimum $2,700 that would be done in 3-4 weeks. Anything faster would be more money. I couldn’t believe my eyes - I was not going to pay that much money for help.

I immediately called to find out why the quote was so high. They explained it would be complex to extract the data based on my machine model. They didn’t have any explanation as to what was wrong with my computer which is what I was looking for.

I called a couple other places to get additional opinions and they all told me to look at repairing the power ports which seemed like less work and less money. I called WRD back to get an actual explanation behind what was wrong with the computer and sure enough it was a power issue. Since they’re a data recovery center and not a repair shop their inclination wasn’t to help me fix the power issue.

So I asked them to get my machine back to me asap so I could take it to someone who could actually help and not spend thousands of dollars to do so. It would cost me $67 just to overnight it back.

I finally got my machine back and brought it to an Apple certified repair shop called Palm Beach Mac Service. They told me they could help with the power issue. I brought it in to their storefront and within minutes they had managed to power my computer back on without any repairs. Simply plugged it in, hit the power button many times and it turned on. I of course had tried this many times so perhaps it was just a coincidence. Either way, it was on, they let me extract my data to the cloud, and it cost me nothing.

Here’s the icing on the cake - when the computer powered back on it had a crack in the screen that wasn’t there before I sent it to WRD. So I immediately called, spoke to Dan, and he said to send an email with photos and they’d try to compensate me for the damage.

Well, two days later I’ve sent multiple emails and no one has responded to help resolve the issue.

Overall a pretty bad experience with WRD where I’ve spent money, had no resolution, and came back with a damaged machine. All they seem to care about is getting your money.

I thought I had lost everything when I started hearing clicking sounds coming from my drive and it rapidly became worse to the point that it couldn’t be mounted. But, with a little help from WeRecoverData Data Recovery, I lost nothing. Not the cheapest game in town, but certainly the best. Highly recommended!
