I sought out Greenlight a few years ago to teach my kids (10 and 13) financial responsibility, and the core platform is excellent. At $20 monthly, it provides great value by automatically allocating their allowance between spending, savings, and donations - exactly what I wanted for teaching money management.

Why only three stars? Because Greenlight undermines their own mission with their marketing tactics. My children regularly forward me texts from Greenlight promoting account upgrades with raffles and special offers. This creates exactly the wrong incentives - my 13-year-old begging me to spend more money so she can enter what amounts to a lottery for some product or event.

This approach contradicts the financial responsibility Greenlight claims to promote. The platform should market upgrade opportunities to me - the account owner and decision maker - not through my impressionable children.

The service itself deserves five stars, but these marketing tactics are inappropriate and at odds with why families choose Greenlight in the first place. Please reconsider this strategy and align your marketing with your mission.

Greenlight offers amazing services. It has helped our kids learn responsible saving and spending habits. In addition it helps us use the app to teach valuable lessons about money and spending habits. The app is great for kids and teens and has been an invaluable tool for our family.

Greenlight has been a huge game changer in my family. My son has always been used to receiving an allowance weekly when he completes his chores or a reward when he does well at school. At first I was using a chart to track his chores, a traditional saving (piggy) bank and a bank account. Now Greenlight allows me to do all of that in one place. My son is super excited about GL 🙂

Spoke to 5 different people as to why they canceled my children's accounts. No one can give me a straight answer as to why. Infuriating. Still waiting for a supervisor to all me back...
Addendum: I called Greenlight. Spoke with a supervisor who said she can't do anything for me. The decision to terminate our account comes from a different division that I can't talk to. She will make an inquiry. Unbelievable. All I ask for is an explanation as to why you terminated my account.

We LOVE Greenlight and use it with our tween/teens! They have learned about investing, saving, and giving, all while watching their money flow in and out (how quickly that out tends to happen!) It's a great way to teach money management in a mostly cash-less family.

I love using the green light card for my two kids, it gives me the ability to send and monitor their spending and allows them to learn positive money habits such as budgeting and saving. They also enjoy that they have independence where they can make their own purchases and know they were able to earn the money!

Greenlight has helped us so much with managing money. From going to giving allowance intermittently, depending on whether I had $1 dollar bills available and a messy piggy bank to having a much better relationship with their money. The kids now get their allowance in time, they can order items online by themselves for gifts, they can use their own debit card when going out with friends. They have achieved several saving goals for items they wanted and they have saved for giving money to charities.
